Abandoned Homestand On 3.75 Acres In Sun Valley, AZ Under $10K

This abandoned homestead, and when I say abandoned, I mean it’s been vacant and neglected for quite a few years, was once someone’s dream of a better life. It’s evident they put in a lot of effort as they not only built a house but also several outbuildings on this 3.75-acre property. The land offers picturesque views of flatlands, sagebrush, native grasses, and the impressive mesas of the Petrified Forest National Park. In fact, the owner has even stumbled upon bits of petrified wood right here on the property.

Initially, the seller listed this property for $16,000, but they’ve recently dropped the price to $9,600 on Facebook Marketplace. This 3.75-acre parcel features four old homestead structures and is conveniently located just 2.5 miles from Interstate 40, approximately 10 minutes east of Holbrook and about a 3.5-hour drive northeast of Phoenix. You’ll find petrified wood right in front of the house, and it’s only about a 20-minute drive to the Petrified Forest National Park! All the photos you see were taken in August 2021 and April 2022, showcasing the lots and their scenic surroundings.

To access the property, you’ll need to take Shooting Star Road, an overgrown dirt road along the north, or Sunset Road off Sun Valley Road, which leads to S 16th Street at the end of the block to the west. Lot #22, located diagonally across from the old homes, sits on Stampede Road, another overgrown dirt road along the southern edge of lot #22. You can easily identify these roads in the map section.

Some additional details to note: I’ve decided to keep these three lots together. I thought the single lot diagonally adjacent would be a perfect spot to fence off for animals. The road leading to it hasn’t been cleared yet, and there aren’t any neighbors nearby, but there is an easement, as you can see on the maps. Two of the lots feature four very old structures that pique my curiosity – they have chimneys and old power lights. I can’t help but wonder just how old they really are; my hunch is that they’ve been here long before Sun Valley was even subdivided.
