There’s an abandoned estate nicknamed the “Welsh Versailles” that’s up for grabs right now at a price of £750,000.
This old estate, Kinmel Hall, has been standing for 173 years in Abergele, Conwy, North Wales, and it was basically left to deteriorate before being listed for sale just a week ago.
Once upon a time, over ten years ago when the property market was booming, this 500-foot-long estate was up for sale at a jaw-dropping £15 million.
A group called Friends of Kinmel Hall is in the fight to rescue this Grade I-listed mansion, taking matters into their own hands to save it.
The house, surrounded by 18 acres of walled gardens and known as a favorite spot of Queen Victoria, has recently been listed by the real estate company Allsop.
Despite its current state of decay, the mansion still holds many of its original features. Think grand Edwardian halls, massive oak staircases, intricate vintage cornices, and lofty ceilings.
You’ll find original wood paneling on the walls of many rooms. The vast grounds boast a big stone fountain, acres of trees, and these impressive stone lion statues. The building itself dates back to the 1870s and was purchased in 2011 for £1.45 million with plans to turn it into a hotel.
